University Of Maryland Baltimore County Police Officer Charged After Series Of Campus Arsons

A University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) police officer is under arrest and facing charges for allegedly setting multiple fires on campus while he was on duty, the state fire marshal announced.

Walter Christopher, 36, has been charged on a 12-count indictment for allegedly setting four fires between December 2021 and his arrest on Tuesday, July 19 authorities said.

Specifically, Christopher was charged with second-degree arson, second-degree malicious burning, and malicious destruction of property.

He was arrested on July 19 at the UMBC campus by members of the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the University of Maryland Baltimore County Police Department. 

Christopher is currently being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center without bond.
